Nia is a cardio dance group fitness class that incorporates martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. As an ongoing practice, Nia promotes mindfulness, holistic fitness and well being.

Nia empowers people of all shapes and sizes to connect to their body, mind, emotions and spirit by mindfully focusing on sensation in their body while listening and dancing to music.

Each class, taken barefoot can be adapted and tailored to individual needs and abilities with movements that promote flexibility, creativity and expression.

Nia classes are 60 minutes and include a mindful intention, warm- up, aerobic conditioning, strength training and cool down. Nia choreography is based on 52 moves designed to exercise every joint and muscle in the body and allows practitioners to connect to nine diverse movements and techniques that draw on a combination of Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jazz, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Yoga, the Alexander Technique and the work of Moshe Feldenkrais.

Nia 5 stages

The Nia 5 Stages is an integrative movement practice based on the five stages of human development Embryonic, Creeping, Crawling, Standing and Walking. Practice with awareness, these stages have the power to facilitate optimal alignment, improved function and comfort in the body.

This system provides a tool for reclaiming and sustaining mobility, strength, agility and stability.

Mindful Movement

Mindful Movement

Mindful Movement combines Chiball moves, Tai Chi/Qi Gong and simple dance moves. It’s practice incorporates a holistic approach embracing wellbeing for our mind, body, spirit and emotions.

Movements are gentle, relaxed, graceful and controlled while focusing on cultivating mindfulness and self awareness.

Mindful Movements practiced regularly will improve health, wellbeing and fitness. Benefits include an increase in strength, flexibility, balance and coordination and relaxation.

Tai Chi/Qi Gong

Tai Chi Qi Gong

Tai chi/Qi Gong is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that integrates the mind, body and spirit through meditation, deep breathing and continuous exercise.

It’s purpose is to improve the flow of energy or ‘chi’ throughout the body. Described as moving meditation, Tai chi Qi Gong has both physical and mental benefits.

It improves muscle tone, posture, flexibility, stamina, balance and is a low impact weight exercise that is especially helpful for arthritis. Tai chi is a safe exercise system for people of all ages and fitness levels.
